First Vines Planted
Fattoria di Montemaggio has been in existence since 1975 when it was founded by an Italian Publisher who planted the first vines and started to produce wines in the beginning of 1980. The estate was subsequently sold to a German farmer and after to an English family.
Valeria and Her Family purchased the estate in 2008 and immediately started work on the property, including the construction of houses, gardens, and upgrading the vineyards with a clear intention to create an amazing estate.
The application for an Organic Certification was first made in 2006, but since it takes 3 years to convert a traditional estate practicing conventional agriculture to an Organic Estate, the certification wasn't granted until 2009.
Montemaggio has added more wines into their Portfolio, creating additional IGT Super Tuscan Wines: Quinta Essentia and Ilaia, Chianti Classico Gran Selezione. We have also planted Chardonnay Grapes and creating wonderful Sangiovese based Roses.
Since Then Until Now
Since then Valeria and Ilaria have been working on the production of the most authentic genuine hand-made wines and try to teach anyone who is eager to listen about the importance of Organic Agriculture, respect for nature and ourselves. Our wines are irrevocably connected to this terroir and will ensure the taste of Tuscany in each sip.
Fattoria di Montemaggio
It has been our MISSION to educate the world about Organic Agricultiure and to Produce Genuine Authentic Wines.
During our harvest season, every bunch of grapes undergoes considerable selection in the vineyard and later again in the winery. Harvest is carried out manually, and only when the grapes are perfectly ripe. Hence, it could be said that Fattoria di Montemaggio’s wines are 100% hand-made, and they preserve all the quality of the elements that are a part of the land where they have been cultivated. We also age our wines for a very long time due to our elevated altitude of 600m above the sea level and the way we mature and age our wines.
We put all of our love and pasion into our land, in our grapes and certainly in our wines! The beauty of this territory, culture, heritage and tradition is what made us fall in love with Tuscany and Chianti. Our goal is to enhance and share that natural beauty with others through thoughtful winemaking, organic and sustainable practices and biodiversity conservation.
Biodiversity is the variability among living organisms from all sources as well as the ecological complexes of wich they are part.
Biodiversity is the key of Organic Agriculture and Ecosostenibility.
Biodiversity brings balance between the human being and the nature.

Bought for husbands birthday. Wow wow wow!!! We drink a lot of good wines but this wiped the floor of all of them. Tastes like a bottle of wine three times it’s cost. Immediately bought more. Savour on its own or with food. Complex yet smooth. A hug in a bottle
What a delicious and well rounded Chianti, we enjoyed this along with some antipasti and have agreed this will certainly become a staple feature in our wine selection. Wonderful color with floral notes and a lasting finish. We love the fact it is organic and delivery was super fast and well packed. Can highly recommend.
This wine was mentioned in a chick lit novel, so I thought I'd give it a try. I'm so glad I did. It's fresh, delicately fruity and smooth. The best rose I've had and well worth the money. I'll definitely be buying this again.
